Since the last show, we’ve gone to many new and exciting places and captured more than a dozen new images of the western way of life in many areas that was new to us and maybe you.

Traveling up Hwy 58 to the Carrizo Plain with its diverse countryside, as far north as San Luis Obispo and ranch life images in the snow. We traveled to the Reed Valley Ranch to photograph and capture the feel of the ranch life.  I photographed dusty backlit horses to cattle driving in from the valley.

Again we also have the great sounds of the western band Trail & Rails.

We have finally finished putting up all of the photos for the show this weekend! Here are some pictures of the early stages of the set up. We spruced up the walls with some fresh paint (we have both decided that it has been 15+ years since the last paint job…it was about that time) and are looking forward to the delivery of bails of hay. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Big Ole Barn in Old Town!

David Friend Photography’s First Western Film and Digital Photography Show

SAN DIEGO — November, 20, 2010 — The David Friend Photography studio will hold its first ever Western Art Show from 2:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010. A follow up to the successful Towns Burr Gallery show earlier this year, the Saturday event will exhibit pieces inspired by the artist’s interwoven ties to the world of Cowboys and the Great West culture. Bring your Stetson hats, pile the family up into your trusty steed and head down to Old Town for a true Western Experience. Music and refreshments will be available free of charge.

• View David’s temporary exhibition, Western Photography, displaying breath-taking landscape shots of the Great Plains, harrowing acts of bravery as a Cowboy takes a crazed bull, one-on-one, and serene candidates of local wild horses. David’s ability to capture the essence of the Western (not necessarily Country) culture, is truly something which should be witnessed in person.
• Shop for a unique gift, the holidays are upon us! Take home your favorite print(s) or pick a print to give as a gift. Many sizes are available for every space.
• Listen to the music of Trails and Rails! Coming from the San Diego area, they perform extensively in the Southwest and have been featured at many Western festivals and events, including the Cody Stampede, the Tombstone Western Music Festival and the Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival. July 10, 2010 marked the opening of a month long Western Art Exhibit at the Towns Burr Gallery in Burbank, California, where my art is showcased and available for purchase. Overall, I could not have been happier with the turn out. Towns Burr Gallery was a fantastic host. Close to 100 moseyed their way through the doors of the gallery, taking time to view the works of not only my photographs, but also the art of Rob Word and Jimmy Don Cox. Even the likes of Robert Forster found their way to the gallery for some good cowboy eats (homemade chili by Mr. Burr and mini corndogs, made with care), colorful conversation, images of yesterdays and music from Will Ryan’s Cactus County Cowboys, that was engaging and easy on the ears.

Overall, the gala was a great experience and I look forward to meeting and mixing with art lovers of all types for the remainder of the month.
